Electric radio controlled cars are powered by stock 540 sized motors which propel the models to speeds up to 15 mph. But by adding modified motors, speeds may exceed 40 mph.

Mercedes SLK Electric RC Car

Nitro rc cars are powered by .12ci - .21ci engines capable of producing 1 - 2 horsepower. Coupled with a 2-speed automatic transmission, nitro rc cars are capable of speeds in excess of 60 mph.

It is recommended that beginners start with electric radio controlled cars. When you have mastered the speed then you can upgrade to the more complex and faster nitro rc cars.

RC Car Types

There are many types or categories to choose from. Most popular are the 1/10 scale electric remote control cars and the 1/10 scale nitro rc cars. But there are other types:

1/10	Electric On-Road Touring	Usually 4 wheel drive with realistic car bodies and 540 electric motors
1/10	Nitro On-Road Touring	Usually 4 wheel drive, 2-speed transmission with .12ci gas engines
1/8	Nitro On-Road	The ultimate and fastest. Usually 4 wheel drive, 3-speed transmission with .21ci gas engines
1/24	Electric mini cars	Mini rc cars, usually 2 wheel drive
